Deputy Secretary Mateen sentenced to 29 years in three cases of corruption

 

The accused in three separate cases of corruption is the suspended deputy secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration and the former assistant commissioner of Gopalganj. The court sentenced Shahriar Mateen to 29 years in prison. Besides, other accused have been sentenced to different terms of imprisonment. On Tuesday (September 26), Gopalganj Chief Judicial Magistrate Court has given that separate prison sentence. Deputy Director of Faridpur Integrated District Office Rezaul Haque confirmed this information.

According to ACC sources, on May 24, 2017, in a case filed by the then Assistant Director Mamunur Rashid as a plaintiff, it was alleged that Tk. 25 lakh was obtained through corruption through land acquisition. Where he has been charged under Section 4(2) of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2012 by concealing or concealing the illegal nature, source, location, ownership and control of income by transferring, transferring and layering. Shahriar Mateen was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment and a fine of 97 lakh taka as the verdict of that case was proved. In addition, another 6 months imprisonment has been awarded in default of payment of fine. On the other hand, in another case filed by the ACC in October 2016, Deputy Secretary Mohammad Shahriar Mateen and the dismissed (absconding) Kanongo Md. The court sentenced Abdul Jabbar to 10 years imprisonment and fined Tk 20 lakh under Section 409/201/109 of the Penal Code. In the same case, under Section 5 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, he was sentenced to 7 years imprisonment and fined Tk 10 lakh.
